"The No. 1 quality of a leader, in my opinion, is somebody's willingness to serve others." - Brad Stevens

"For basketball demanded that though the players be talented, the also subordinate their individual talents to the idea of team and to each other. A truly great basketball player was not necessarily someone who scored a lot of points; a truly great basketball player was someone of exceptional talent and self-discipline who could make his teammates better."
- David Halberstam, The Breaks Of The Game
One of the best lessons that a basketball coach can teach his players is that to play big is to believe in the greater good, the team, and that every player on that team can be a leader and play a valuable role in helping his teammates become better players. Here is a great mission statement for your team.
PLAY BIG: BELIEVE IN GREATNESS
To play big is to think big.
1. To think big is to see the big picture.
2. Seeing the big picture is being able to visualize in your mind everything your team needs to succeed, and using your talents and gifts to support your team's success.
3 .To believe in greatness is to believe in the potential and power of any moment.
4. To believe that at any moment, at practice or in a game, you have been given an opportunity to help your team succeed and be great.
5. Your team's success depends upon your desire and determination to step up, seize the moment and serve the greater good.
6. Ask yourself - What can I possibly do to help one of my teammates become a better player?
7. Ask yourself - How can I be a valuable teammate and leader so that my team is stronger and more successful?
